PROFILE OF NEW SAN PRESIDENT - LIM M. YU

Picture
LIM M. YU NEW SAN PRESIDENT
Lim M. Yu, along with his wife Anna, has resided in Las Vegas since 1989.  Both he and his wife were pleasantly surprised to discover the Singapore Association of Nevada (SAN) a few years ago and they have been actively involved ever since.  Mr. Yu is semi-retired but spends a significant amount of time devoted to real estate investing and related property management activities.  In his free time, he enjoys caring for and playing with his grandson, Evan and granddaughter, Ava and actively participating in regular badminton games with a local organized badminton league.  Mr. Yu has two sons, Paul and Terence who are married to Tanya and Susy respectively.
Paul and Tanya are the proud parents of toddlers Evan and Ava.
Mr. Yu, as the latest member of a succession of volunteer SAN Presidents has two major goals for the Association.  First, he hopes to reiterate the long standing SAN commitment to the friendly association of all Singaporeans and friends of Singapore.  Secondly, he hopes to facilitate and coordinate the first ever SAN formal election of its President. By doing so, he hopes to give the general membership a greater voice in deciding who should lead the Association going forward.

SAN 2015 NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION & PRESIDENTIAL HANDOVER

On Sunday, August 9th, 2015 the annual Singapore National Day event was held at the Gandhi Indian Restaurant on Paradise Road in Las Vegas.  This year, a rather sizeable contingent of SAN members opted to enjoy the more temperate weather of San Diego, California to celebrate the Nation’s 50th anniversary at a massive gathering down Southern California way.  For those of us hardy souls who braved the 105 degree Vegas heat, we feasted on the tasty Indian food, enjoyed each other’s company as always and welcomed some new members as well.

Towards the end of the event past SAN President, SweeLee Stephanie Chee presided over the presidential handover ceremony which included prepared remarks thanking outgoing SAN President, Kirsty Vittetoe and introducing incoming SAN President, Lim M. Yu.  Mr. Yu gave a brief acceptance speech and the attendees continued to mingle and attack the buffet items for seconds (thirds?).  The next event will probably be the MOON CAKE FESTIVAL in late September.  Keep a sharp eye for an  e-mail detailing the exact date, time, place, contact person, etc.

IN MEMORIUM – ROSALIND VAN HEEL

Rosalind Van Heel nee Koh Kar Gek
It is with great sadness and regret that we must report the death of long time SAN member, Rosalind Van Heel nee Koh Kar Gek (Debbie’s mom).  Rosalind was born on November 3rd, 1928 and passed away January 13th, 2015 in Las Vegas.  Rosalind was 86 years old.  Rosalind was always upbeat, friendly and loyal to the Association.  She was known to make it her business to get to any SAN event by any means possible (including public transportation on occasion).
Such was her dedication and determination.  As a very proud Singaporean, you could usually count on her to lead the singing of Majullah Singapura at the annual National Day gatherings to conclude the event.  Her presence will be deeply missed.  Rest in peace.  Rosalind is survived by her daughter, SAN member Debbie Teng-Lorenzo, along with brother, Sunny Teng and daughter-in-law Dorothy and four grandchildren, Terence, Pamela, Angelina and Simon.
